Craigneil Castle

Near Colmonell

Phone number:

Defensively well positioned upon a rocky outcrop Craigneil is associated with many historical tales. It is said to have been built in the 13th century and hold links to Robert the Bruce as well as being the site where the brother Dalrymple of Stair was executed. However, sceptical historians believe there is no bearing for these claims and in fact, the building was probably more likely to have been built in the 15th century. Whether a believer or not this building is still very impressive with walls 6 feet thick and can be reached via the Stinchair Valley Walk, those who find it can get up close and decide for themselves.
