Holly Tree Cottage is a delightful, cosy cottage set in the heart of the very pretty conservation village of Straiton featured in the book ‘The Most Beautiful Villages of Scotland’. The village was used as a location for the film ‘The Match’ due to its setting and resemblance to a typical Highland village.
With a large open fire, comfortable sitting and dining room, a well-equipped kitchen and two double bedrooms, Holly Tree Cottage is the ideal place to stay for a romantic weekend, a walking, fishing or cycling holiday, if you are visiting family and friends and it is a great base to explore this beautiful area. The 200-year-old cottage has been carefully restored to retain its character and has a relaxing atmosphere. Perfect for unwinding and having a complete break.
There is lots do without the need to get in the car. Within a short stroll there is the Black Bull, a traditional pub serving good food, The Buck Coffee Shop with delicious cakes and Straiton Stores; a well-stocked local shop. There are several signposted walks starting from the village, fishing and cycling are also on the doorstep. Within a short distance are excellent golf courses, forest drives, castles, horse riding facilities and several lochs.Nearby is Galloway Forest Park, which is also a Dark Sky Park and is home to some of the world’s darkest night skies. There are several locations nearby to star gaze including right outside the back door.
